Joe Murphy and Joe Battista founded the firm in 1982, more than 40 years ago and it has grown from a 2 lawyer firm to a 20+ lawyer firm with offices in downtown Vancouver, Surrey and Kelowna, and with a support staff of more than 60 people.
The son of a Calgary doctor and one of 8 children, Joe’s medical knowledge and work during law school as an insurance adjuster provided the perfect training for him to become a successful personal injury lawyer. During his career, Joe has acted on numerous court cases which have either established or changed the law in British Columbia — for the benefit of his clients and society. Some of these court decisions have been referred to hundreds of times by other judges. In recognition of Joe’s court successes, he was awarded the Queen’s Counsel designation (King’s Counsel as of September 8, 2022) in 1999.
Joe credits his upbringing, his various past jobs, and his work as a lawyer as teaching him the importance of listening and watching. This belief and skill has been invaluable in allowing him to successfully represent hundreds of clients.
Having graduated from law school about 50 years ago, Joe is semi-retired, but still provides help and support to the other lawyers in the firm.
