Alex Sayn-Wittgenstein*
Partner
Vancouver

Alex is one of Murphy Battista’s partners. For over 25 years he has worked primarily as a medical malpractice lawyer. Alex’s first years in practice included acting for health care defendants, during which time he gained insights that few lawyers have as to how medical providers defend cases. Since 2012, Alex has used that knowledge while only working for those people harmed by substandard health care and their families.
Alex’s work includes acting for both adults and children who suffered catastrophic brain injuries or devastating spinal cord injuries, sometimes in situations where obvious warning signs were ignored or disbelieved by doctors or nurses. His cases include court-approved awards in excess of $12 million in a sepsis case and in excess of $14 million in a labour and delivery case. Alex also acted on behalf of over a hundred dental patients against one dentist as a result of systemically faulty restoration work.
Alex has practiced at all levels of court, including at the Supreme Court of Canada.
Alex has been an instructor at the Peter A. Allard School of Law, University of British Columbia, and a speaker at trial advocacy courses for Continuing Legal Education of British Columbia and the Trial Lawyers of BC.
