Biography
Faraz Ravanbakhsh joined Murphy Battista LLP in 2024 where he focuses on class actions and works closely with Angela Bespflug and Janelle O’Connor. Many of the class actions Faraz is involved with relate to institutional abuses of Indigenous peoples throughout the country. For example, Faraz has experience pursuing claims against Canada and the Provinces on behalf of Indigenous survivors of the child welfare system who were apprehended as children as part of a system imbued with systemic discrimination against First Nations.
In addition to this core practice, he often represents victims in civil sexual assault claims, both historical and recent.
Before joining Murphy Battista, Faraz worked for national and regional firms in addition to reputable litigation boutiques. At these firms he focused on complex commercial litigation, specifically in areas such as shareholder disputes, partnership disputes, and securities litigation involving allegations of insider trading and violations of the public interest. Faraz has represented clients before all levels of court in British Columbia and has assisted on matters before the Supreme Court of Canada.
Faraz is passionate about reconciliation with First Nations and has served at Potlatches throughout British Columbia since 2009. Faraz was honoured to become an adopted member of the Musgamagw Dzawada’enuxw First Nation of British Columbia in 2016, where was given the name hita’gilame which means ‘one who fixes the problems of others’.
Prior to becoming a lawyer, Faraz played soccer at an elite level in British Columbia.
