Angela Bespflug is Benchmark Litigation Canada’s Plaintiff Litigator of the Year!
May 9, 2024
We are delighted to share that our colleague Angela Bespflug was named Plaintiff Litigator of the Year last night at the 2024 Benchmark Litigation Canada Awards. This is the third time Benchmark has acknowledged the excellence of Angela’s work, which has made a significant difference in the lives of our clients. She is relentless in the pursuit of doing what’s right for people who might not otherwise see justice. A tenacious, forever idealist (her words and an apt description), it’s great to see her dedication to people who need a champion to fight for their rights recognized in the litigation community.
It’s been a busy year so far. Angela was a key player on the legal team that pushed for justice in a class proceeding on behalf of Canada’s disabled veterans and RCMP officers. The result was a settlement and court approval of a substantial award ($817M) that will help rectify a miscalculation of disability benefit payments. In addition, she continues to work on cases that include several distinct class proceedings addressing wrongs against Indigenous people relating to child welfare, health and racism and a class proceeding to address an alleged improper clawback of disability pensions, to name a few. The remainder of 2024 is shaping up to be another good year for justice, and we applaud Angela’s relentless optimism and perseverance in getting fantastic results for clients. Congratulations, Angela, the recognition is very well deserved!
