I grew up in Vancouver as a first-generation immigrant. I understand the challenges that people face when trying to figure out unfamiliar or complicated systems. Being anxious or scared about your situation because you don’t know how things work is the last thing you need when coping with an injury. One of my goals when dealing with clients is to put them at ease by explaining exactly what’s going on and what will happen next. I take the time to answer questions and make sure my clients understand the steps in the legal process.
I’m a graduate of the Peter A. Allard School of Law (UBC). During my time in law school, I gravitated towards the type of legal work that helps people. I was actively involved with the Law Students Legal Advice Program (LSLAP). At LSLAP, I helped provide free legal assistance to people with criminal, immigration, human rights, and employment law problems. Working at LSLAP, I developed a knack for finding creative solutions to resolve legal issues for my clients while making sure these solutions suited their personal, financial, and home circumstances.
I’ve lived in Alberta and Ontario before I settled in Vancouver and started law school. I articled with Murphy Battista LLP in 2018 and stayed on as an associate after being admitted to the BC Bar in 2019.
I chose to work at Murphy Battista LLP because I wanted to help people on a larger scale. To date, I have had the opportunity to help clients address their legal issues, big and small, while working on their personal injury claims, motor vehicle injury claims, disability benefit denials, insurance claim denials, and class actions. I am very fortunate to have worked with our amazing clients and to have had the wonderful opportunity of assisting them in getting their lives back on track.

Kevin Gourlay acted for two owners of a rental property in Maple Ridge. They thought they were properly insured but when a fire happened, they were denied coverage by their insurer because the home was between tenants and the policy said they had no coverage while the home was “vacant.” The plaintiffs brought a claim against their insurance broker for failing to advise them of the potential gaps in their coverage. The Court concluded that the broker was negligent and was the sole cause of the lack of coverage.
In my spare time I enjoy playing volleyball, exploring Vancouver’s awesome food scene and brewing kombucha.
More than happy with the excellent service, particular by Molly Li, always readily available and pleasantly helped resolve a difficult problem.
