Biography
My primary practice is representing children who have experienced physical, emotional, or sexual abuse or neglect while under the care of the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) in British Columbia. I am deeply committed to helping these individuals seek compensation and closure for the suffering they’ve endured. With a compassionate yet determined approach, I guide my clients through the legal process, ensuring that their voices are heard.
I have appeared before the British Provincial Court and British Columbia Supreme Court.
I earned my JD from the University of Ottawa, where I took a concentration of courses in the Health Ethics and Policy stream. I completed my articles at a boutique Vancouver litigation firm, where I focused on medical, class action, and insurance law.
During law school I worked at the University of Ottawa Community Legal Clinic, where I provided family law services to low-income people. I also spent a summer working for the Government of Alberta’s Legal Services Division on the Aboriginal, Constitutional, and Family and Surrogate Court Teams.
Before law school, I completed a BA at the University of British Columbia in Gender, Race, Sexuality, and Social Justice. My degree included a practicum with the Centre for Excellence in Women’s Health, working on an initiative to better provide cultural and medical services to people with FASD in two Innu communities. I also volunteered with the CUDDLE program through Vancouver Coastal Health, providing support to new mothers at risk of postpartum depression.
Alongside volunteering, I worked as a teaching assistant in the Department of Sociology at UBC. I also worked as an editor of the Family Science Review, a peer-reviewed international journal with a focus on diverse families, as well as the Ignite Undergraduate Journal in Social Justice. These experiences taught me about the importance of clear language, attention to detail, and the power of storytelling to connect with people from all walks of life.
I am excited to bring my diverse background and commitment to social justice to my work at Murphy Battista LLP. My experiences in both legal practice and community service have shaped my approach to law, emphasizing empathy, advocacy, and a deep understanding of the social issues that impact individuals.
Outside of the office, I am actively involved in the Vancouver badminton community, both as a player and a volunteer. In my free time, you can often find me exploring British Columbia’s beautiful backyard – hiking, backpacking, climbing, or canoeing.
