A lawyer on the island was recently suspended for a month and fined $2k for signing the exhibits to an affidavit, then having his clients swear the affidavit front of a notary in Hawaii.  He then e-filed the affidavit without actually having the original (R. 23-3(6) requires the filer to have the original paper version and confirm it bears an original signature.  It must be remembered that even in trivial matters, affidavits must be properly executed and corners can’t be cut.
