Irina Kordic
Where were you born and raised?
I was born in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, while it was still part of Yugoslavia. I moved to Canada when I was 14.
At what point in your life did you decide to pursue a career in law?
I had considered it since I was 17 years old, but didn’t fully decide until 3rd year of my first university degree. I love practicing law and have no regrets about the decision I made.
What do you find fulfilling about your work as a lawyer?
It requires me to really think about a variety of issues every single day. The law is always changing, sometimes subtly, sometimes significantly, and I have to be aware of the changes and how they affect my clients. Each client also has a unique set of circumstances. Those circumstances require me to come up with creative approaches to effectively help each particular client.
Why did you choose to practice personal injury law?
I really wanted to help individuals through using my legal knowledge. Personal injury is the perfect practice to have a hands-on approach and help a large variety of different people.
What has been your proudest moment or biggest achievement in your legal career so far?
I always feel the most pride when a new client is referred to me by a former client who felt that I had done a great job for them. It motivates and reaffirms my goal to help my clients to the best of my ability.
What is your favorite aspect of working at Murphy Battista?
Murphy Battista’s environment is friendly, fun and relaxed while still being professional and respectful. I love the people I work with and they make the firm a special place!
What do you think makes Murphy Battista different from other law firms?
At Murphy Battista, we truly care about our clients’ overall well-being. Obviously, we look out for a client’s legal interests, but we also make sure to take care of the client’s other needs and concerns. Each client is an individual and we take their unique circumstances into account when helping them through their legal situation.
When you’re not working, what are your favorite things to do?
Aside from work, my true passion is spending time with my daughter. We especially enjoy dancing and singing together. In addition, I love travelling and I hope to explore as much of the world as I can.
Where do you see yourself in ten years, professionally and personally?
In ten years, I still see myself at Murphy Battista as a very seasoned litigator. It has been a great ten years so far and I hope to continue the trend.
Personally, I’d like to make time for more singing and dancing. I hope to participate in the annual Lawyer Show again and continue to travel to new exciting places in the world.
