Murphy Battista LLP is proud to be one of the sponsors of Providence Health Care’s upcoming conference “Aphasia Treatment: Implementing Best Practices in the Clinical Setting”. The conference aims to review new and emerging aphasia treatment approaches with a focus on facilitating oral expressive skills. In particular, the theoretical background, procedures and current evidence supporting aphasia treatments will be discussed.
Leora R. Cherney, a Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Northwestern University and Senior Research scientist at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, will present at the conference. Dr. Cherney has over 30 years experience working in a clinical setting with adults struggling with neurogenic communication disorders, has co-authored four books, and written over 70 publications for reference journals, textbooks and other periodicals. Presently, Dr. Cherney directs the center for Aphasia Research and Treatment at the Rehabilitation institute of Chicago.
The conference will take place over two days, June 7th and June 8th, and will cover numerous topics related to Aphasia research. Areas that the conference hopes to cover include: constraint-induced language therapy, overview of the latest in reading and writing, computer-assisted therapy, functional approaches including conversational scripting, biological approaches including transcranial stimulation, Aphasia groups, and linguistic approaches targeting grammar, semantics and phonology.
The conference is taking place at St. Paul’s Hospital in their New Lecture Theatre. Registration is open to speech-language pathologists and speech language pathology assistants. Interested parties can register for the event starting at 8:00 am on either day of the conference. Coffee, tea, and other refreshments will be made available throughout the two days — boxed lunch is also included in the registration price.
