Irina Kordic was born in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, ex-Yugoslavia and immigrated to Vancouver in 1995. She completed her Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of British Columbia with a major in English Literature and minors in Mathematics and Theatre. She also obtained her law degree at UBC, but traveled to the University of Copenhagen, Denmark on exchange in her final year of law school.
While studying for her undergraduate degrees Irina worked in areas of accounting, sales and marketing, theatre, and finally as a simultaneous translator. Once she found her passion for law, Irina volunteered for the Law Students' Advice Program giving free legal advice to those who needed it most. In order to further develop her litigation and negotiation skills, she also participated in numerous competitions from UBC moot court program to the international alternative dispute resolution forum. Irina got her first law-related job with Murphy Battista in 2004 and has been here ever since. She completed her articles with the firm and was called to the Bar in 2007.
Although she immensely enjoys her focus on personal injury work, she likes to be occasionally involved in other areas of law such as creditors' remedies, property disputes and wills and estates. Being a passionate litigator, she is frequently in front of the courts, Provincial, Supreme and Appeal. However, Irina is a firm believer in putting the clients' interests first and she has helped resolve many cases through mediation or negotiation.
Kordic is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and the Trial Lawyers Association of British Columbia where she has served as the Chair of the New Lawyer Litigation Group for several years. Irina is fluent in Serbo-Croatian and also speaks passable German.
Irina is married to Miodrag and they have a young daughter. Whenever she can, Irina sings, dances and acts in the annual Lawyer Show which is a charitable performance that raises money for Vancouver's theatres.
